Conference Recap:

A lot of news came out of today's press conference with The UFC's President, Dana White. Perhaps the biggest story is the fact that we will not see FedorEmelianenko in The Octagon. We do get to see The Hunnington Beach Bad Boy Tito Ortiz back in the UFC as well as Vitor Belfort. "We tried everything that we could possibly do to get Fedor in the UFC." Said the President of The Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White, "They did not want to take the deal. I guarantee they won’t be offered a better deal." Sounds like the same old story between Fedor and the UFC.



In other news, the headline for UFC 103 will no longer be Dan Henderson vs Rich Franklin, but is now going to be Rich Franklin vs Vitor Belfort. Freeing up Henderson to be the next in line for a title match against current UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. The two fought back in March of 2008 where Henderson put on a good first round only to be submitted with a Rear Naked Choke late in the second. Since then Henderson has put on a three fight win streak beating Rich Franklin via decision and most recently at UFC 100 Michael Bisping with a brutal K.O. midway through the second round to earn a title rematch.

Tito Ortiz is still rehabbing his back surgery he had back in October of 2008. He believes that he can still be a contender in the UFC's Light Heavy Weight Division. "Forrest Griffin, I beat; Rashad Evans I thought I’d beat, but they called it a draw; Machida, I gave him the best fight anybody’s given him to this point and I almost submitted him. So me coming back at a hundred percent, everyone in the light heavyweights better watch out..." said the former UFC Light Heavy Weight Champion. The UFC is aiming towards a November or December possibly against former UFC Heavyweight Champion and UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman.

Other new additions to the UFC is Joe Lauzon's brother Dan Lauzon, Ben Rothwell, Paul Daley and Chase Gormley. Also the UFC Signs a three year long deal with ESPN in the U.K.

RUMOR MILL: Fedor signs with the UFC

According to FiveKnuckles.com a source close to Fedor Emelianenko's camp, The Red Devil Sport Club, has made claims that Dana White will announce the signing of the Pride Heavyweight and WAMMA Heavyweight champion, Fedor Emelianenko. The supposed date of this announcement is scheduled to take place this Friday, July 31st.

FiveKnuckles.com's source claims that a bout between Fedor and the current UFC champion, Brock Lesnar could be scheduled for UFC 103 in Dallas Texas September 19th. This will of course be for Brock's UFC Heavyweight Title. Brock just came off his first title defense with an impressive second round TKO against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir.

Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko's last fight was January 24th against former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arkovski with a stunning KO mid way through the first round.

"how much do you weigh?  so why are you going to get yourself in trouble?"  These are the words of Anderson Silva to Wanderlei Silva.  This comment reflects Wanderlei's recent move from Light heavyweight to middle weight.  Wanderlei is naturally a super middle weight fighter and is more comfortable fighting at 195.  This would be interesting to see if Wanderlei will have a leg up on middleweights as he is a small light heavy weight.  

What does Wanderlei think about this?  "I thought it was excellent being quoted by the champion without having a fight in the division....He is too cocky....He has always been my friend, respected me, but now he came with statement...the war is declared."  

Wanderlei Silva is not comfortable with this recent move and has been seen helping Rich Franklin train for his upcoming fight.  The plot thickens between Wanderlei and Anderson, perhaps this is a start of a mega fight at 185lbs....

One Of The Sickest Submission EVAH!!!

In the semifinals of the Bellator Lightweight Tournament, Toby Imada defeated heavy favorite Jorge Masvidal mid way through the third round this past Friday night. Imada, who was losing the fight was able to lock an inverted upside down triangle choke, while standing. Due to the lack of blood to his head, Masvidal collapsed and went to sleep. Basically it kinda looked like Tajiri's Tarantula submission minus the ropes.

Advancing to the finals, Imada now has to face yet another favorite in Eddie Alvarez. I'm curious as to what crazy submission Imada will try to pull off next. Maybe he'll try a flying gogoplata German suplex.

Feature Fighter of the Month: Jon "Bones" Jones

This month's fighter is none other than rising star Jon “Bones” Jones. Born July 19, 1987 in Rochester, New York, now fights out of Endicott, NY. Jones has fought in the octagon twice now and is scheduled to fight Jake “Irish” O'Brien in the monumental UFC 100 card in July 11th. Jones currently trains with Team BombSquad out of Cortland, NY. Jon's record consist of five knock outs, two decisions, and one submission.

Born in Rochester, NY Jones grew up in Endicott, NY. In 2005, Jon was a state wrestling champ in his senior year at Union-Endicott High School. Jones later went on to becoming the National Junior College Champion at Iowa Central Community College. Jones later signed a four fight contract with the UFC making him the UFC's youngest fighter at the time.




Jon's latest victory was against TUF season 1 runner up, Stephan Bonnar. In it, Jones was able to pull off some impressive strikes in the first two rounds. Spinning elbow-strikes and even landed a suplex on Bonnar. Bonnar was able to put up a fight during the third round, but with both fighters showing signs of fatigue, Bonnar was unable to finish Jones. The result was a unanimous decision in favor of Jones.

Jon's next fight is at UFC 100 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Headlining the night is shared between Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir and Georges St-Pierre vs Thiago Alves. Jones will be taking on Jake O'Brien in a preliminary bout. With both fighters having a background in wrestling, they could possibly cancel each other out making this a striking match. O'Brien may have the edge on the ground however based on both fighter's past performances, Jones has the superior striking skills.

With Jones being as young as he is and as talented as he is, there is no telling to what he is truly capable of. By no means is he perfect, he has gassed before in his fights. Most notably was he last fight against Stephan Bonnar. With a little more time, Jones can be a top contender and possibly in title contention. As for now we'll all just have to wait and see what becomes of Jon “Bones” Jones.

StrikeForce: Nick Diaz Vs. Frank Shamrock

Frank Shamrock vs Nick Diaz.  This is a battle that took place in San Jose's HP Pavilion on 4-12-2009.   

In the co-main bout, Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith squared off agianst Benji Radach.  This was the best fight out of the entire card in my opinion.  I hate to spoil fights but I always love a good shoot out.  

Nate's picks for Strikeforce April 11th 2009

To start the card is going to be Brett "Grimm" Rogers (8-0) vs. Abongo Humphrey (12-0) in a 3 round heavyweight bout. I see Roger taking this with a 2nd round KO.

Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos (6-1) vs. Hitomi "Girlfight Monster" Akano (14-5) fighting 3 five minute rounds at 140lbs. Cyborg should be able to take this in the first with a TKO. Pretty much a practice fight for the Gina Carano fight this summer.

Next is Scott "Hands of Steel" (14-5) vs Benji "Razor" Radach (19-4) for 3 round Middleweight match. This one looks a little difficult to call, but I'm gonna go with Scott Smith via unanimous decision.

For the Co-Main event was supposed to be Strikeforce Light weight champion Josh "The Punk" Thomson (16-2) vs Gilbert Melendez (14-2) has been scratched due to Thomson breaking his leg while training for the rematch. In lieu of Thomson is going to be Rodrigo Damm (8-2) for the Strikeforce Lightweight Interim Title. With his intense work ethic, I see El Nino taking it in an unanimous decision over the Brazilian.

And for the Main event Frank “The Legend” Shamrock (23-9-2) vs. Nick Diaz (18-7) in a three round 179lbs Catch Weight bout. Shamrock, who normally fights at 185lbs should be able to win the stand up and be able to use his size against the native Stockton resident. However a black belt under Cesar Gracie is nothing to over look, Diaz has a great BJJ game. Given the chance Diaz, who recently found his home at 160lbs, can submit just about anyone. As cliché as it may sound, it may come down to “Who wants it more.” Both fighters are extremely resilient, however I do believe that Diaz has more heart than The Legend. Given all the factors, I see Diaz winning via submission in the third round.

“American Promoter”, a reality series featuring UFC CEO Dana White, has been cancelled. Dana White called off the show due to a recent back lash caused by his anti-gay rant in the video below.
